More house hunting

Well yesterday we saw another two houses and it was too of the more odd ones. One which makes good common sense as in right location and right price and another which looked to be an emotionally good house as in the sort of house you kind of dream of owning. What was weird was that seeing these two houses turned everything on its head.

The one that from the pictures in the advert and general locations seemed like a dream house fell short of what we were expecting. In fact my wife who was the biggest fan of this house seemed to like it the least of all the houses we went to see. It had two issues. One is that if anything it was slightly too big and the other is that despite feeling that I quite fancied rural living that was taking rural a bit too far for us. Which is a shame really as it is a lovely house and will make some family very happy I am sure, just not us.

The second house which is the very sensible option but did not seem to grab out attention on the pictures was the exact opposite. We walked in and liked pretty much everything we saw. My eldest daughter was getting so excited she was desperate to whisper to us that she thought this was the one.

Much deliberating and we have a plan of attack now. The 'sensible' house is also luckily the one that we all seem to like and we are going to try and get that one. I am currently trying to get my mortgage provider to play ball and then we will look to making an offer. But we have a backup as one of the houses we saw the day before was another very strong contender. Interestingly it was also the house from that day which we did not expect to like as much.

I hope the lawyers, mortgage lenders and everything line up soon. I cannot wait to move the wife and kids up here so we can start our life in Shetland properly.

Oh and the best bit was we went and had dinner in Frankies Fish and Chip shop in Brae. http://www.frankiesfishandchips.com/ They make the best chips I have ever had and the scampi was amazing. Might have to visit that a few more times.

Housing Market In Shetland

Having just started looking seriously at the housing market in Sheltand I have noticed a few things.
First it does not have lots and lots of houses available.
Second those that are available tend to go very quickly. Well they seem to if I am at all interested in them :-(
Third is that Shetland seems to love long low houses. Most of them appear to be only over 1 floor but pretty large on the whole. The exception to this is the big old ones in Lerwick which are gorgeous and over 3 floors but expensive.

I am enjoying looking now but getting a bit scared by how quickly it is all moving. Plus somewhere along the line I have to find time to sell my house, arrange mortgages and consider renting a place in the meantime.

Which is another thing. I think I found a grand total of two rental properties advertised. This is going to be trickier than I thought.

Beginning

I spent 5 months or so working in Shetland at the end of last year commuting up and down every day. This has resulted in an opportunity for me to move me, my wife and kids all the way up to Shetland.
I have had the good fortune to manage to get both my wife and kids up to have a look at Shetland and they seem to like the idea of the move. Since then it has been a bit on and off if I was going to be able to move mainly because it was not always clear when and if the job would be available.
This all changed dramatically when last week I was told that the job was available if I could move in ~7 weeks time.
So back round the fun of telling the kids we are moving, discussing with the wife and the realising that I have far less time than I thought to complete the decorating I had just started.
So the next few weeks are going to be busy. Very busy indeed and possibly the most exciting and stressful of my life.
